Oily Skin Solutions: How To Sweatproof Your Face for Summer

Do you have oily skin ?
The good news is this skin type is generally slower to show fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration. The downside can be more frequent breakouts, large pores and a greasy appearance. The following steps can minimize the negative effects.

Here some of tips i got while browsing internet

1-Maintain a Balanced Complexion ..Too much suds and H20 can strip skin of moisture and cause sebaceous glands to work overtime, resulting in a rebound effect (read shinier, oilier skin). Stick to deep cleansing twice daily and for midday touch-ups use a gentle toner or pre-moistened facial wipes.
2-Switch to a Lighter Moisturizer. Avoid using cleansers that tend to overdry skin. This paradoxically causes your skin to produce even more oil than usual

3-Use a Non-Drying Foundation .It should be oil-free and oil-absorbing yet nourishing and non-drying.
4-Wear the Right Makeup For the best sweat-proof eye makeup, invest in a long-wearing cream eye shadow and water-resistant eyeliner.
5-Carry Blotting Papers

Clean and Clear

The cleaning toning moisturizing routine acquires more importance for oily skin. But we tend to overdo the cleansing. Washing your face four time a day only ends up producing more oil. Instead, select a mild cleanser and use it only twice a day. Follow it with astringent to remove excess oil. But not to go for alcohol-based astringent as it strips too much oil from the face. Keep your skin clean. Even make-up should be kept to the bare minimum-kohl and lipstick. The more foundation you use, the higher the chances of clogging up your pores.

I Eat, So I Am

Oily skin types should resist deep fried foods and fatty foods. Drink at least 12 glasses of water. Water helps to flush out toxins. Now is a good time to make seasonal fruit (watermelon, muskmelon) and vegetables (ghia, tinda, cucumber, tomatoes) part of your daily diet. Naturally succulent they are rich sources of water.

Tone It Down

Using a toner is a good way to cut oil. Adding a pinch of salt to soda and dabbing it on oily areas to get out of the sticky situation. Toners cool the skin and they range from fresheners, toners, clarifiers to astringents with fresheners being the mildest and astringents the strongest. So start with a mild freshener and advance up the line until you get the results you want. Exfoliating and using a mud pack also help check the oil. But those with combination skin and oily T-zone must treat their skin as two different types.

Some quick fixes from your kitchen.

Multani Mitti (This white powder is produced from clay which has great cleansing properties for both the skin and hair.) or Fuller’s earth makes an excellent cleansing mask, and possesses highly absorbent qualities. It is rich in minerals and when applied to the skin in the form of a paste, it helps improve circulation; it hardens slowly as it dries, and absorbing the dead cells on the top of the skin and dries up any excess oil.

Packs are a great way to check oiliness. Multani mitti is especially suited to oily skin. Add 1tsp mint, 2 drops clove oil and rose water to the mitti and apply to your face Let it dry. Wash refrigerated water. This will also tighten your pores.

If you have an oily T-zone, take 2 tsp honey and add a pinch of camphor to it. Massage it on the oily area and rinse well.

Take 1 tsp beauty grains (choker, oatmeal), 1 tsp orange peel powder and 1 tsp sandalwood. Add these to your face wash and make a paste. Apply to the skin and rinse.

Grate a cucumber finely or blend it into a paste. Refrigerate it and later apply to the face. Keep on for 15 minutes. Wash off with cold water. For best results, repeat twice a week, on a cleansed face. You can use apples or tomatoes similarly.

Seasonal veggies and fruits help you ban the oil!!!

Strawberries: Make a mush of berries and apply to the face. Acts a natural scrubber.

Tomatoes: Take refrigerated raw tomato halves and apply to the skin after cleansing. Tomoto has natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids.

Watermelons: Don’t throw away watermelon peels. Refrigerate them and rub on your cleansed face. Shrinks pores and reduces oiliness.

Papayas: Papaya paste works wonders for sticky skin.

Cucumber: Blend cucumber and mint in a blender and set to freeze in an ice-tray. Rub these cubes on your face after cleansing for a rejuvenated skin.

What is a Foundation Primer? And Do I Need it?

Summer can be a frustrating season for makeup wearers because it often requires a different approach to applying cosmetics. With hot summer weather, it can sometimes be difficult to keep your makeup from sweating right off your face. Nobody wants to see sweat streaks ruining their eye makeup or foundation!

Face Primers

Face primers are like a lotion you apply before you put on foundation; all you have to do is take about a pea-sized amount and dab it all over your face. Try to get an even amount on all areas of your face.
Question: What is a Foundation Primer? And Do I Need it?
Answer: Just like you prime a wall before you paint it, you can prime your face before you apply foundation. Primers are a relatively new concept in the makeup industry (they became popular in the last couple years) and you'll notice they've popped up everywhere. They actually work much like a moisturizer under your foundation does: they ease the application of foundation and are meant to create a barrier between foundation and skin.

Makeup artists swear primers go one step further than moisturizers: They'll even out skin tone, help your makeup stay on longer and absorb oil with salicylic acid.

Other benefits, according to Laura Mercier:

1. They allow foundation to "stay put" in hot weather.
2. Help prevent skin from absorbing talc and pigment from your foundation as well as preventing talc from drawing oil from the skin.
3. They contain botanicals such as lavender, orange, jasmine, rose, geranium, grape, kiwi and aloe extracts to soothe and refresh the skin.

One of the final benefits to using a foundation makeup primer is that you will use less of your makeup. Instead of your foundation absorbing directly into your skin, the primer acts as a base, with the foundation adhering to the primer rather than the skin itself. With a primer reducing the imperfections of the skin's surface, less product is required to cover those areas.

There are different primers available suiting different skin types.
Below mentioned Images are courtesy of Musing of Muse

How to use primer ?:
  1. Moisturize your skin and let your daily moisturizer soak into your skin for a few minutes
  2. Apply a dime-sized amount of your foundation primer to clean fingertips
  3. Gently rub into the skin as you would your moisturizer, paying special attention to the T-Zone areas and fine lines and wrinkles
  4. Wait one to three minutes before applying your foundation

Do you use makeup primers? What primers or other products do you use to keep your makeup looking fresh? Let me know!

Review : Blue Heaven CLASSIC Kajal

Kajal has been used by women since times immemorial to beautify their eyes and lend a soft look to their face. Not just for beautification, kajal, when prepared in the traditional style has medicinal properties as well and is said to cure and prevent many eye-ailments. Even today, in urban as well as rural households, grandmothers line up the eyes of babies and infants with home-made kajal to beautify the eyes and keep eye ailments at bay..

I have been using Surma / Kajal / Kajal Powder /Kohl since i was a little girl.
I am now i guess addicted to them. Because when someone asks me about One beautyproduct i would like to take with me if i am left on an island / desert , i only think of kajal. *sighs*
Do i have a problem?
Yes ! i guess so

 Blue Heaven CLASSIC Kajal

It is quite smooth and applies easily on water without dragging or pulling, the shape of it is rounded.
One thing i love about these shaped kajals is that don't need a sharpener .
Apply it at an angle to keep the point relatively pointy.
It may smear easily,I wear it alone in my daily life but I run over the line with a shadow to set it if i am wearing it on some party / weddings / or get-together.
kajal is in bullet shape packaging , which to be honest looks bit cheap plastic-istic to me. Pigmentation is decent, Not intense as my Hashmi Kajal .

Price : It was for Rs 35 ( less than a $ 1)

Where to buy this : I bought blue heaven kajal, from islamabad F7 Harold's store.

How to apply kajal ?
  • Very carefully, pull down the lower eye lid, just enough to expose the inner lid line.

    •     * Now take the pencil and ensure that the tip is a bit blunt so that it doesn’t poke you sharp. Slowly, drag it on the lower eye lid along the contour. Start from the inner eye to the outside.
    •     * If you are hesitant about using pencil, take some kajal on the tip of your finger and apply it smoothly along the lower eye lid contour. Applying kajal on the lower rim of the eye makes it look very soft.
    •     * You may also apply it on the upper lid of the eye with the eye pencil. Just close one eye and pull it slightly to stretch the upper eye lid. Carefully, line the lid contour with the eye pencil and get that smoky look, which make the eyes look absolutely mysterious.

I still have to post a review on Lakme Kajal pencil.

I should start a series on Kajal reviews..hmmm

what say?

Has anyone seen this kajal in pakistan ? i would love to get my hands on it

Video-How i apply Flawless Foundatoin for pictures

I got few emails asking me to post about how i apply my foundation, tips and trick when i take pictures for my blog www.glossicious.com Instead of writing a post about it , i filmed this video, Hope you will find it helpful :) Please Rate , Comment and Subscribe.

please check out video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO6IKWkGblU

Update :Please keep in mind that its  not how i apply my daily foundation. I hardly wear makeup in my daily life . But Its only how i apply my foundation when i am taking photographs for blog and want a doll like complexion .
Some of you asked me why i used concealer before foundation ? Or What is the right way to apply it?
There are tricks to covering up problems and then essentially camouflaging the concealer itself. I apply it before foundation ,once you apply concealer BEFORE foundation , you won't need as much foundation.
There is some confusion over whether to apply concealer or foundation first, qwll i personally believe if it works for you, mean if you achieve the desired effect, and look good, then it doesn't matter how you put your concealer on. :)
